Baker|McGuire is looking for an Experienced Furniture Finisher to join our Finishing Department Team at our Connelly Springs Location. The ideal candidate must specialize in restoring, repairing, and applying high-quality finishes (stains, lacquers, varnishes) to high-end furniture. They expertly strip old finishes, repair damages, match colors, and use spray guns or hand-rubbing techniques to achieve desired, durable, and aesthetically pleasing surfaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation: Sand, shape, and smooth wood surfaces using tools like sanders, pumice stones, and steel wool.
Finishing & Refinishing: Apply stains, sealers, paints, and protective topcoats (lacquer, varnish, wax) to high-end furniture.
Repair & Restoration: Identify and fix scratches, dents, and broken parts using wood filler, putty, and glue.
Color Matching: Expertly mix dyes, stains, and paints to achieve specific, requested, or original colors.
Quality Inspection: Examine finished products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
Tool Maintenance: Properly clean and maintain spraying equipment, brushes, and tools
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Proven, in-depth experience in furniture restoration or manufacturing finishing for all types of woods & veneers. (Prefered 1-3 years)
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of wood types, grain patterns, and the appropriate finishing materials for each. Ability to apply primer, top coat paint, stain, & any wiped or spray-applied coatings to detailed parts as per customer specifications & industry quality standards.
Tools: Must be familiar with & have operational knowledge of department tools. Familiar with reading a ruler & have basic math skills.
Artistic Eye: Strong attention to detail, precision in color matching, and a keen sense of aesthetic quality. Capable of mixing ingredients to obtain specified colors/shades to specifications or match existing finishes.
Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and work with tools for the majority of the day.
Safety Compliance:Knowledge of working safely with chemicals, hazardous materials, and proper PPE. Ability to identify & report unsafe conditions to Direct Report and Safety Team Members..
Schedule Reliability:Ability to adhere to scheduled working hours and punctuality in reporting to work. Open to work beyond work schedule base on business needs.
Adaptable & Agile: Comfortably adjusts to changing priorities and reprioritizes workloads when deadlines shift.
Growth Mindset: Willingness to learn new methods, procedures, or techniques as provided by Direct Report.
