JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct resident care and essential support to the nursing team within the Care Center/Nursing Home. The CNA assists residents with activities of daily living, promotes comfort, safety, dignity, and independence, and supports the delivery of high-quality resident-centered care in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, federal and state regulations, local requirements, and organizational policies and procedures. The CNA observes and reports changes in resident condition, documents care provided, and communicates effectively with nursing staff, physicians, ancillary departments, residents, families, and external agencies while maintaining strict confidentiality. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, self-motivation, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The CNA is expected to demonstrate compassion, professionalism, creativity, and accountability while contributing to exceptional resident outcomes.


STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Resident Care and Activities of Daily Living: Provides direct resident care as assigned by the Charge Nurse, including AM and PM care, bathing, dressing, grooming, back rubs, ambulation assistance, dietary support, linen changes, mobility assistance, and safe use of resident-handling equipment, such as Hoyer lifts.
  2. Clinical Support and Treatments: Carries out special orders and treatments as directed by the Charge Nurse, including skincare, specimen collection, intake and output measurements, vital signs, compresses, enemas, and other delegated resident care tasks within scope.
  3. Observation, Reporting, and Documentation: Observes resident condition, promptly reports unusual signs, symptoms, or occurrences, and maintains accurate documentation of resident status, care provided, and required information in appropriate records, including ADL sheets and electronic health record systems.
  4. Safety, Infection Control, and Regulatory Compliance: Follows infection control, OSHA, HIPAA, resident safety, and applicable regulatory standards. Maintains vigilance over residents by ensuring call lights are within reach, beds are in the lowest appropriate position, side rails are used as indicated, and rooms remain neat, orderly, and free of hazards.
  5. Resident Support and Communication: Provides encouragement and respectful support to residents and family members, responds promptly to call lights, escorts residents to departments or services as needed, and assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation to vehicles or other locations.
  6. Specialized Care Needs: Supports residents with specialized needs, including those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, by applying appropriate memory-care strategies, behavioral support techniques, and resident-centered approaches.
  7. Teamwork and Special Assignments: Accepts and completes special assignments in a timely manner, assists other staff with duties as needed, transports residents, supplies, and specimens, and provides relief in other areas when assigned.
  8. Training, Certification, and Professional Development: Maintains required certification in accordance with hospital, state, federal, and TJC requirements, including completion of 12 hours of resident-related in-service education annually, and participates in ongoing training related to resident care, medical terminology, physiology, CPR, BLS, emergency response, and other applicable competency requirements.
  9. Additional Duties: Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position and organizational needs.



Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to a high school diploma, or documented C.N.A. work experience, will serve as an equivalent to completed education.

Formal Training: Must demonstrate a working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Prior experience working with geriatric patients or individuals with disabilities is preferred, as it supports the ability to provide compassionate, resident-centered care.

Licensure, Certification, and Registration Requirements: The Certified Nursing Assistant must meet and maintain all required credentials for the position, including:

  • A valid, unencumbered listing on the Georgia Nurse Aide Registry; and
  • Current Basic Life Support CPR certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.

Fingerprinting and Background Check Requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant must successfully complete all applicable state and federal background check requirements before employment and throughout employment, as required. This includes a satisfactory state and federal FBI fingerprint-based criminal history check processed through the Georgia Applicant Processing System (GAPS) and compliance with Georgia Criminal History Check System (GCHEXS) requirements for Georgia nursing homes.

Work Experience: 1 year of healthcare experienceas a CNA is preferred.  

Computer Skills: Experience with EMR/EHR (Electronic Health Records/Electronic Medical Records) systems, such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks, is advantageous
